Stainless steel products have been seen everywhere in life. The most commonly used products are stainless steel thermos cups, spoons and other products. These products are processed and manufactured with stainless steel materials of 304 and above. And what kind of material are these stainless steel materials?
Stainless steel material is austenitic stainless steel, which is resistant to weak corrosive media such as air, steam, water, or stainless steel, and is not easy to rust; chromium is added to stainless steel, and chromium is added during processing. The existence of oxidative effect produces a chromium-rich oxide film to protect stainless steel from being corroded. There is also a high-grade low-carbon stainless steel, such as 304L, 316L, etc. Compared with 304, there is one more molybdenum element, so what role does molybdenum play in it.
Although chromium provides basic corrosion resistance, the addition of molybdenum can improve the intergranular corrosion resistance of stainless steel water pipes such as 316L, and at the same time enhance the high temperature strength and creep properties of stainless steel materials, making the chromium-rich oxide film more stable.
Because of its good resistance to intergranular corrosion, 316L stainless steel water pipes are more used in special environments, such as chemical industry, marine environment, and large-scale construction machinery in the field.
